Matera caves, also known as Sassi, are found in southern Italy and have been used since the Paleolithic, when the inhabitants began to carve soft stone to create homes.
This time, the challenge was to make a small return to the past and make a neat modern home built inside the rocks. The task was given to the studio “Manca” about the hotel “La Dimora di Metello”.
With this project were created four apartments with common area space of 300 square meters.
The architects have used the walls to give a sense of security and warmth without having to feel kaustrofobical.
